What Seam collects. Why. Who handles it. And what you can ask us to do.
Last updated 17 October 2026
Who we are
Seam is made by Ville Ventures Limited (“we” or “us”). We’re registered in England and Wales, company number 17427263. Our registered office is 71-75 Shelton Street, Covent Garden, London WC2H 9JQ. We are responsible for your data (the “controller”). Questions? Email david@actuallyai.co.uk.
The short version
- You can use Seam without giving us your name or email.
- We keep your scan photos and Grade Cards. We use them to make grading better.
- If you allow it, we record roughly where you scan, to about 500 metres. Never your exact spot.
- No adverts. No tracking. No analytics tools in the app.
- We never sell your data.
What the app collects
| What | Details |
|---|---|
| An account number | When you first open Seam, we create an anonymous account with a random number. It counts your scans and keeps your Grade Cards. |
| Sign in with Apple | If you sign in, we store your Apple user ID and the email Apple shares. That can be your real email or an Apple relay address. You choose. Apple may offer your name. We don’t keep it. |
| Scan photos | The one or two photos you take per scan, at full quality. We don’t remove the details your camera saves in them. Seam doesn’t add your location to the photos. |
| Rough location (optional) | Only if you allow it. Your phone works out the area before anything is sent: the postcode district (like “B30”) and a map square of about 500 metres. Plus how accurate the reading was. Your exact position never leaves your phone. Seam only checks it while the app is open. You can say no, or switch it off in your iPhone’s Settings. |
| Wall size | The area of the wall. Your iPhone measures it, or you type it in. We keep the area only. Not a 3D scan. |
| Grade Cards | Our results: brick type, age, mortar, condition, quantity and price. |
| Your answers after a scan | Optional questions. For example, what you’ll do with the bricks, whether you’re trade, and roughly how many. Skip any you like. |
| Phone software | The system name and version, like “iOS 18”. No device ID. |
| Purchases | Your plan, when it started and ends, and updates Apple sends us. We never see your card details. |
| Referrals | Your referral code. And who referred whom. |
| Your choices | Which version of our terms you saw. And the settings you picked. |
Seam doesn’t ask for your contacts or your photo library. If you tap Save Image, it adds the Grade Card picture to your photos. It can’t read them. Notifications are switched off.
Why we use it
The law asks us to give a reason (a “lawful basis”) for each use.
- To run Seam for you. Grading your scans, keeping your cards, counting scans and giving you your plan. Basis: our contract with you.
- To make grading better. We check scans and cards and fix mistakes. Those fixes improve the brick library and the instructions Seam grades with. Fixes are written as text, like “this is a Leicester red, not a London stock”. They can affect other people’s results. We don’t use your photos to train an AI model. Basis: our legitimate interests.
- To use your rough location. Bricks are regional. Knowing the area helps us grade more accurately. It also lets us map where reclaimed materials are. Never for adverts. Never to track you. Basis: our legitimate interests, and only if you allow location on your iPhone.
- To understand who uses Seam. Your answers show us whether it’s trade or homeowners, and what for. Basis: our legitimate interests.
- To stop misuse. For example, making sure free scans and plans are used fairly. Basis: our legitimate interests.
- To meet the law. For example, keeping records of payments.
Where we rely on legitimate interests, we’ve weighed them against your rights. You can object at any time. Email david@actuallyai.co.uk.
Who handles your data for us
| Company | What they do | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase | Stores our database, photos and logins. Runs our servers. | Stored in London |
| Anthropic | Its AI reads your photos and writes the Grade Card. It gets a smaller copy of your photos, the wall size and our instructions. Not your name or email. | USA |
| RevenueCat | Manages subscriptions for us. Gets your account number and purchase records. | USA |
| Apple | Sign in with Apple, App Store payments and subscriptions. | Apple’s own privacy policy applies |
| Vercel | Hosts this website. | USA and worldwide |
These companies act on our instructions. Their contracts require them to protect your data. When data leaves the UK, it’s protected by UK-approved safeguards. These are the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, or the International Data Transfer Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.
We don’t share your data with buyers, yards or anyone else. We’d only hand it over if the law made us.
How long we keep it
- While you have an account: we keep your scans, Grade Cards and answers.
- When you delete your account: your login goes, including your email and Apple ID link. We ask Apple to cut Seam’s access. Your scans move to a shared, unnamed account. We remove their device details and 500-metre areas. Only the postcode district stays. We keep these de-identified photos and Grade Cards to improve grading, with no set end date.
- Some records stay under your old internal account number. These are your answers after scans, purchase and referral records, and which terms you saw. We keep payment records for as long as tax law requires.
De-identified isn’t the same as anonymous. With enough effort it could, in theory, be traced back to you. So we still treat it as personal data. Your rights still apply. You can ask us to remove your photos at any time. See Delete your account.
Your rights
Under UK law, you can ask us to:
- send you a copy of your data
- fix anything that’s wrong
- delete your data
- limit or stop how we use it, including to improve grading
- give you your data in a format you can take elsewhere
Email david@actuallyai.co.uk. We’ll reply within one month. Not happy with how we’ve handled it? You can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk, or call 0303 123 1113. We’d like the chance to put it right first.
This website
No advertising or tracking cookies. We use Vercel Web Analytics to count visits. It uses no cookies and doesn’t identify you. Our host keeps short-term server logs, including IP addresses, for security. If you email us, we keep the email to deal with it.
Launch mailing list
If you join the list on this website, we keep your email address, when you joined, and which version of the sign-up wording you saw. We use it to email you when Seam launches, and when there’s exciting news about it. Nothing else. Basis: your consent.
The list is stored with Supabase, in London. Only we can read it. We’ll use an email service to send our emails, and we’ll name it here before we do. Unsubscribe any time: use the link in any email, or email david@actuallyai.co.uk. We keep your address until you unsubscribe, then remove it.
Children
Seam is for adults and the building trade. It’s not meant for children under 13.
Security
Your data is encrypted when it travels. Photos are stored privately. Only your account and our team can see them. No system is perfect. If something went wrong, we’d tell you, and the ICO where the law requires.
Changes
If we change how we use your data, we’ll update this page and the date at the top. For big changes, we’ll tell you in the app.
