Terms of use
The rules for using the Seam app. Please read them, especially the parts on accuracy and safety.
Last updated 17 October 2026
1. Who we are
Seam is made by Ville Ventures Limited. We’re registered in England and Wales, company number 17427263. Our registered office is 71-75 Shelton Street, Covent Garden, London WC2H 9JQ. Contact us at david@actuallyai.co.uk.
2. Agreeing to these terms
By downloading or using Seam, you agree to these terms. That includes the licence in section 12. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the app. Our Privacy policy explains how we use your data.
3. What Seam does
Seam looks at photos of reclaimed building materials, mainly bricks. It estimates the type, age, mortar, condition, quantity and price. We call this a Grade Card. Slate and roof tiles are in beta.
4. Accuracy: please read this
Matched by eye, to a stated confidence. Test before you build structurally.
- A Grade Card is an opinion from an AI system, based on photos. It is not a lab test, a structural survey or a professional valuation. It is not professional advice.
- Results can be wrong. Each card shows how sure it is. Take that into account.
- Prices show typical market values. They are not an offer to buy, or a promise of what anyone will pay.
- Don’t rely on Seam to decide if a material is safe for structural use, below the damp-proof course or in exposed places. Get it tested. Take advice from a structural engineer or building control.
5. Safety and asbestos
If Seam warns about asbestos, don’t touch the material. Have it tested by a licensed surveyor or accredited lab. No warning does not mean it’s safe. You are responsible for working safely and legally when you inspect, take apart or handle materials. See Safety and accuracy.
6. Your account
Seam creates an anonymous account when you first open it. Sign in with Apple to keep your plan across devices. Keep your phone and Apple ID secure. You can delete your account at any time. See Delete your account.
7. Scans, plans and payment
- You get 3 free scans without an account. You get 10 more, once, when you sign in with Apple. A scan only counts when you get a Grade Card.
- Pro and Pro Plus give you a set number of scans each month. They reset on the 1st of each month (UK time). Unused scans don’t carry over. Annual plans get the same scans each month.
- Extra scans from referrals don’t expire. We can remove referral scans gained unfairly, such as referring your own accounts.
- Apple sells and bills subscriptions through your Apple ID, at the price shown in the app. They renew automatically, for the same period and price, unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Manage or cancel in your App Store account settings. Deleting the app or your account doesn’t cancel it.
- Apple handles refunds under its own rules.
- When demand is very high, we may pause grading for a short time. No scan is used when this happens.
- If we change a subscription price, Apple will tell you first. Where needed, it will ask you to agree.
8. Your photos
Your photos are yours. You let us store, copy and analyse them, and the Grade Cards made from them. We use them to run Seam and to improve grading. This permission is worldwide, free and not exclusive. It carries on after you stop using Seam, for the de-identified scans we keep (see our Privacy policy). Only take photos where you’re allowed to be. Don’t include people on purpose.
9. Fair use
Please don’t:
- use Seam for anything illegal, or to mislead someone about what you’re selling
- dodge scan limits, for example by making extra accounts for free scans
- copy, reverse engineer or resell Seam or its results, except where the law allows
- interfere with Seam’s servers or other users
- upload offensive images, or images you have no right to use
We may suspend or close accounts that break these rules.
10. Our liability
Nothing here limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law doesn’t let us limit. If you’re a consumer, your legal rights are not affected.
Otherwise, we are not responsible for losses from decisions you make based on a Grade Card. That includes buying, selling, pricing or building with materials. It also includes lost profit, business or opportunity. Our total liability to you in any 12 months is limited to what you paid us for Seam in that time, or £50 if you paid nothing.
11. Changes and ending
We may update Seam and these terms. If a change affects you in a big way, we’ll tell you in the app first. We aim to keep Seam running, but can’t promise it will never go down. You can stop using Seam at any time. We may close the service with reasonable notice. If we do, you can cancel any subscription through Apple.
12. Licence agreement
We give you a licence to use the Seam app on Apple devices you own or control. You can’t pass it to anyone else. It follows the Usage Rules in Apple’s Media Services Terms and Conditions. Also:
- This agreement is between you and Ville Ventures Limited, not Apple. We, not Apple, are solely responsible for Seam and its content.
- Apple has no duty to provide maintenance or support for Seam.
- If Seam fails to meet any warranty that applies, you can tell Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price, if any. As far as the law allows, Apple has no other warranty duty for Seam.
- We, not Apple, deal with any claims about Seam. That includes product liability claims, claims that Seam breaks a law or regulation, and consumer protection or privacy claims.
- If anyone claims Seam infringes their intellectual property, we, not Apple, are responsible for investigating, defending, settling and resolving it.
- You confirm you are not in a country under a US Government embargo, or named by the US Government as a “terrorist supporting” country. And you are not on any US Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- You must follow any third-party terms that apply when you use Seam.
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of this licence. They can enforce it against you.
Send questions, complaints or claims about Seam to david@actuallyai.co.uk.
13. Law
These terms follow the law of England and Wales. If you’re a consumer living elsewhere in the UK, you can also bring a claim in your local courts.
